Description

This savory, crispy, and flavorful fried cabbage with bacon is a simple, one-pan dish that’s perfect as a side or even a main course! With crispy turkey bacon, tender cabbage, and a perfect balance of seasonings, this dish is sure to be a hit at your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 6 slices turkey bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

1️⃣ Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

2️⃣ Cook the turkey bacon: Add the chopped turkey bacon and cook until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Once crispy, remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.

3️⃣ Sauté the onions: Add the sliced onion to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes, until softened.

4️⃣ Cook the garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.

5️⃣ Add the cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, and stir to combine with the onions and garlic. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika (if using).

6️⃣ Add the water: Pour the water into the skillet, cover, and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.

7️⃣ Let the liquid evaporate: Remove the lid and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes to allow any remaining liquid to evaporate.

8️⃣ Stir in the bacon: Add the crispy turkey bacon back into the skillet and mix it into the cabbage.

9️⃣ Taste and adjust: Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then serve warm.

Notes

  • You can use regular bacon if you prefer, but turkey bacon provides a lighter option.

  • For a smoky flavor, try adding a pinch of smoked paprika.

  • If you like your cabbage more tender, cook it for a little longer.
